Rapperswil Location
To ensure modern and guideline-based oncology, the Rapperswil-Jona location uses tumor boards and certifications as quality assurance tools. New cases are discussed in the weekly interdisciplinary tumor board. In addition, weekly case reviews with specialists from other locations of the Tumor- und BrustZentrum ensure that treatment plans are created to the highest quality standards. The Rapperswil-Jona location is certified as a network partner of the Kantonsspital Winterthur by the German Cancer Society (DKG).
Further certifications are held by the Brustzentrum Stephanshorn in the field of breast diseases (Krebsliga Schweiz), and by the Swiss Cancer Network (SCN). As part of a certification, the quality criteria are reviewed at regular intervals to obtain re-certification. All these measures ensure high quality from diagnosis to treatment and aftercare, and ensure that the processes are efficient and patient-oriented.
Tumor boards and certifications as quality features
The Rapperswil-Jona location was founded in 2008 as another location of the Tumor- und Brustzentrum ZeTuP, headquartered in St.Gallen. Over the years, it has earned a firm place in the care of people with tumor and blood diseases in the region through modern, quality-conscious and patient-centered tumor therapy and interdisciplinary treatment concepts.
The medical director of the location, Dr. med. Matthias Egger, brings a wealth of professional experience thanks to taking on leading positions during his time in the hospital and later many years of clinical work in outpatient care in a practice in southern Germany. His team includes competent employees who, thanks to their many years of belonging to the practice team, are very close to the needs of patients and relatives and always strive to put people at the center of their work.
Together with the medical colleagues of the Tumor and Breast Center Eastern Switzerland at the other locations in St.Gallen, Wattwil and Sargans, as well as the cooperation partners, including the Rüti Center for Radiotherapy ZRR, the Winterthur Cantonal Hospital, and specialized practices in the region such as the Abdominal Center, the necessary expertise is available in the network for the treatment of all malignant diseases.
A particular focus of the Rapperswil-Jona location is the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases. There is close cooperation with the breast disease specialists at the St.Gallen location, who offer weekly consultations in Rapperswil-Jona, including the necessary examinations for women with breast diseases. Operations are performed by nationally recognized specialists in the certified Brustzentrum Stephanshorn, which is under our medical management; follow-up treatment and aftercare then take place locally in Rapperswil-Jona.

A plastic surgeon, Stefan Weindel, is also active in the location's premises and can be consulted at any time. Services such as nutritional advice (in our own practice) and contacts to palliative care facilities and psycho-oncological therapists round off the services in the network, which, thanks to its regionality, saves patients long journeys.

The process at our Tumor- und Brustzentrum
Registration at the Breast Center is usually done by your family doctor or gynecologist. If you have breast problems or questions, you are also welcome to make an appointment with us directly. We treat patients of all insurance classes.
We schedule appointments according to urgency. If you have suspicious breast changes, you will be offered an appointment for clarification within a maximum of 2 (working) days.
If you are unable to attend your appointment, please inform us as soon as possible.
We can quickly clarify changes in the breast or conspicuous findings. As part of the initial consultation, in addition to a detailed discussion, we carry out a palpation and ultrasound examination of the breast. In the case of conspicuous findings, a sample (biopsy) can be taken immediately with a thin needle. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and takes around 15 minutes.
In most cases, a mammogram is also necessary for a comprehensive assessment during the breast consultation. These are carried out at the Klinik Stephanshorn. We schedule these directly before or after your appointment in our consultation. A shuttle service is organized by us and ensures a quick way to the mammography and back to us.
If necessary, we can organize additional examinations (e.g. MRI) for you through our radiology colleagues.
We will inform you of the result of the biopsy as soon as possible and discuss with you the further procedure in your individual situation. In many cases, the changes are harmless and do not require any further therapy.
However, if you are diagnosed with breast cancer, your findings will be discussed in our team and at our interdisciplinary tumor conference. At the Breast Center, we will then explain the therapy recommendation to you and advise you on this in detail. We then plan the further steps together with you.
If an operation is planned, we will discuss the procedure with you in detail. We attach great importance to ensuring that, whenever possible, you are operated on by the same doctor who carried out the examinations and therefore knows you and all the necessary findings best.
We carry out your operation at the Klinik Stephanshorn. In the case of breast cancer, we can offer you an operation date within 1–2 weeks at the latest.
You will receive all the necessary documents from the Klinik Stephanshorn. If you have any relevant pre-existing conditions, you may be invited separately for an anesthesia consultation. As a rule, however, you will be admitted to the clinic directly on the day of the operation.
You will be operated on by your attending physician from the Breast Center and subsequently cared for during your hospital stay. In the case of breast-conserving surgery, you can expect a hospital stay of 1 to 3 days.

In the week after the operation, or at any time if needed, we will carry out a wound check in the Breast Center.
In the case of breast cancer, a second discussion will take place at the tumor conference after the operation. As part of the wound check, we will explain the findings of the tumor operation and their significance for the further course of treatment in a personal consultation. Additional treatments are often recommended for breast cancer to prevent a recurrence, such as radiation therapy to the breast or drug therapies.

You can reach parking spaces No. 2, 3 & 4 via the "Alte Jonastrasse" entrance or parking spaces No. 25 & 26 via Kreuzstrasse.
For our patients with walking difficulties:
It is possible to drive directly under the high-rise building from Alte Jonastrasse. There is a parking space for loading and unloading at the underpass. The elevator is located at the eastern entrance. We are on the 4th floor.
