Information for referring physicians
Patients with breast complaints are examined in our senology consultation. Both benign and malignant changes can be referred - an ultrasound-guided biopsy is possible immediately. Our specialists decide at the time of referral whether further investigations are necessary - whenever possible, radiological examinations such as mammography, CT and MRI are optimally coordinated for the patient on the same day. These examinations take place at the Stephanshorn Clinic in St.Gallen - a free shuttle service for patients is available, as is free parking in our underground garage.
Our medical oncology specialists carry out all system therapies (chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, immunotherapy, experimental therapies) for all solid tumors. All therapies that can be carried out on an outpatient basis are offered for hematologic diseases.
Tumor follow-up care can be carried out together with you as the referring physician or delegated to us on request.
If you have any questions about cancer screening, familial cancer risk and recommendations from specialist associations, you can consult us at any time.
Follow-up care after cancer is becoming increasingly individual - it depends on the type of operation, the tumor biology and the risk of recurrence. We are happy to recommend a personalized aftercare plan or carry out the aftercare together with the referring physicians.
Our specialists all offer specialized cancer-specific genetic consultations. We have been advising patients with an increased genetic risk for many years, carrying out genetic tests and then recommending the appropriate screening and, if necessary, prophylactic therapies. At the Stephanshorn Clinic Breast Center, we work together with specialists in medical genetics. We are accredited by the SAKK as a center for genetic counseling.
Various procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis on our premises or at the Stephanshorn Clinic in St. Gallen: FNP, punch biopsies, small excisions and Port-a-Cath implantations as well as drainage of wounds, ascites or pleural effusions.
We now offer ultrasound-targeted vacuum biopsy with the Mammotome Revolve: Larger biopsies can be performed here, but also specifically outpatient removal of fibroadenomas, for example. This option without general anesthesia and with minimal scarring is increasingly requested by patients.

We organize the inpatient stay for breast operations at the Stephanshorn Clinic in St. Gallen. All our specialists are core team members of the certified breast center and carry out inpatient treatments such as breast cancer operations there independently. By working closely with all specialists (plastic surgery, pathology, radiation oncology, breast care nurse, etc.), we guarantee optimal treatment processes and quality. As a referring physician, you are also welcome to assist with the operations and accompany your patients - please make a note on the referring physician form.
Patients have access to the latest treatment options, including clinical trials. As a SAKK center, we have several clinical studies on offer to reduce surgical morbidity or for new system therapies. You can find out more under Research.
